Obituary of Edward Houstoun Demere

Edward Houstoun Demere, M.A. Edward Houstoun Demere passed away peacefully at his home in Soquel on November 7, 2011 in the presence of his loving family, at the age of 91. He was born in Savanah, Georgia. Edward was a volunteer for Hospice of The Valley, was an active member of St Andrews Episcopal Church, Saratoga, CA and active in the Cursillo movement for many years. Edward, a United States Naval Veteran, retired from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space in 1976 in order to pursue his interest in healing and attend the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. Edward was a resident of Santa Cruz for the past 26 years where he was the co-founder of The Healing Connection of Santa Cruz. Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann Demere. Edward is survived by his wife, Mackie Langham Ramsay, his five children, Patrick Houston Demere, Thomas Ashley Demere, Edward Houston Demere lll, John Randall Demere, and Susan Jane Demere, his 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, his three step children, John Frederick Sosnowski, Laura S. Ramsay, Charles S. Ramsay, and his two surviving first cousins, Raymond Demere and Charles Demere. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1818 Felt St., Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday, December 17, 2011. The doors of the center will open at 12:30 p.m. with the service scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA, 95066.
