Freda Crum

Obituary of Freda Williams Crum

October 10, 1929 – September 17, 2021

Freda Crum passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Cruz.  She would have celebrated her 92nd birthday in a few weeks.

A California native, Freda was raised in Pasadena and earned her bachelor’s degree at University California Santa Barbara.

Freda worked as a teacher in Pismo Beach and Cupertino.  Her work career also included owner and manager of an egg ranch, school librarian, Santa Cruz Yacht Club manager, administrative assistant at UCSC and landlord.  She volunteered with the Goodwill and San Jose State Alumni Association scholarship program.  She was very active in the community, a Lifelong Learner and world traveler.  She had many friends who knew her through the Santa Cruz Yacht Club, where she was active for many years.  Freda visited all 50 states in the US, many camping in her 1955 Airstream Bubble.

Anyone who met Freda was better for it.  She was interested in everyone and had many best friends.  She was always willing to help family and friends and treated all her activities as a social event.

A celebration honoring Freda will be announced when it becomes evident that we can all gather as a community safely.

Freda is survived by her much loved siblings, brothers George and Bill Williams and sister Kathe Morrison, her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Walter Olivieri, her son and daughter in-law, Jay and Denise Crum, five grandchildren and five (with another on the way) great grandchildren.  All will miss her caring presence and “need to know.”  Her brother Elwood Williams, ex-husband James Crum and companion Junior Morgan passed away previously.

Donations can be made in Freda’s name to The Santa Cruz Sailing Foundation (https://www.scsailing.org/donations) which provides opportunities for young sailors.
