Obituary of Alfred P Fehn

Alfred "Fred" Fehn, age 76, passed away in the comfort of his Bonny Doon home while surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. His death followed an illness with melanoma. Born October 28, 1935, Fred was a Santa Cruz native, graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1954 and attended Hartnell College in Salinas. He was center for the Oakland Raiders from 1959-60 and left the National football League after incurring a serious back injury. He later served 25 years with the California Department of Forestry in working with troubled youth at the Empire Grade Boy's Camp. Fred also operated a Christmas tree farm for many years where he sold trees to local families and made annual tree donations to local charity groups. He will be remembered for his gentle and selfless character that was evident even through the last stages of life. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joyce Fehn; two sisters, Claudia Bei and Manette Miller; brother, Albert Fehn, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Ani.
