Obituary of Sarah Eva Collins

Sarah Eva Collins (Fisher), age 92 years, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on August 16, 2013. She was born July 21, 1921 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Donald E. Fisher and Clara S. Fisher. A longtime resident of Palo Alto, she moved to La Selva Beach in 1974. In 1947, Sarah married Daniel E. Collins, who predeceased her (1988). She is survived by her children, Douglas and Jacqueline, her grandson, Thomas, and her sisters, Veda Fisher and Pauline Steele. Her brother Donald passed away in 2010. Sarah graduated from Albright College in 1943, majoring in biology and chemistry. During college, she flew small airplanes. After college, she worked in New York City at Bell Labs, then as a flight attendant for United Airlines based in Chicago where she met her husband, a pilot. She traveled internationally and lived in Japan and Hawaii. During her time in Japan, she studied Japanese wood block print and sumi brush painting. Later, she completed art courses at the University of Hawaii. Back in California, she was part of an interior design business, had a home secretarial business, and finally, became a real estate broker during her La Selva Beach years. At the same time, she raised her two children. An animal lover, during later years, Sarah raised and showed Weimaraners as well as studying Christianity and politics. She was an active member of Cindy's Celebrations. During her life, she also developed amazing gardens, refinished furniture, and sewed curtains that fit cathedral ceilings. She tackled everything with zeal. Funeral services will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Thursday August 22, 2013 beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Thursday beginning at 9:00 am. Interment will be at Skylawn Memorial Park, Hwy 92 and Skyline Blvd, San Mateo, CA.
