Obituary of Winfield S. Whitney, Jr.

Services will be Sunday for Winfield Scott Whitney, Jr. who passed away on July 10, 2012 in Boulder Creek. He was 90 years old. Winfield was born to Winfield Scott Whitney, Sr. and Ethel Whitney on Jan. 3, 1922 and was raised in the San Francisco Peninsula. He attended Sequoia Union High School in Redwood City, and then San Jose State before joining the military. He served honorably in the military during WWII. During his life, Winfield lived in East Palo Alto, South Dakota, Redwood City and then settled in Boulder Creek during the last 19 years. Winfield had a long and distinguished career as the business manager of the Redwood City Tribune. He retired after 45 years in 1979. Winfield loved playing golf. He also enjoyed camping and fishing. And he was a pretty good artist who belonged to an art group for many years. Winfield was a member of Boulder Creek Community Church and a member of SIRS, Santa Cruz. Winfield is survived by his daughter Marsha A. Lynch of Healdsburg, CA, granddaughters, Jennifer E. Lynch, Megan (Xoe) Lynch and Heather Dockendorf all of Citrus Heights, grandson, Brian Bartlett of South Lake Tahoe, brother, Robert Whitney of Menlo Park and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Helen F. Whitney, son, Scott Whitney, daughter Susan G. Bartlett and grandson Brent Bartlett. A Memorial Service for Winfield will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Boulder Creek Community Church, 13090 Highway 9 in Boulder Creek beginning at 12:30 pm. Following the service, a Celebration of His Life will be at The Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club, 16901 Big Basin Way in Boulder Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
