Obituary of Jose - Martinez

A recitation of the Holy Rosary and the Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday and Friday in Santa Cruz for Jose Martinez Perez who passed away at Dominican Hospital on January 1, 2012. Born in Somerton, Arizona on March 19, 1937, he was 74 years old. Mr. Martinez Perez worked in the agriculture industry for more than 40 years. He moved to Santa Cruz 50 years ago, began his career in farming, and raised his family. His family will forever cherish the memories of his love for music and dancing. Music was a special way of expressing his joy for life. He will be remembered as devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jose is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maria Martinez of Santa Cruz; his six children: Antonia Martinez (Watsonville) Rose Garza (Watsonville), Joe Martinez (Santa Cruz), Eddie Martinez (Santa Cruz), Sergio Martinez (Santa Cruz), and Lupe Martinez Perez (Santa Cruz). Also 31 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren ect.. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Leticia Martinez, who passed away when she was 12 years old. The rosary will be recited on Thursday January 5, 2012 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel beginning at 7 p.m. The mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 6, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church (515 Frederick Street in Santa Cruz) beginning at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery (2271 7th Ave.) in Santa Cruz.
