Obituary of James Vomvolakis

James Vomvolakis Private services will be held for James Vomvolakis who died at his Santa Cruz home on May 9, 2011. A life long resident of Santa Cruz County, he was 75 years old. Born in Davenport, to Antonio and Ellen Vomvolakis, he moved to Santa Cruz in 1944, where he excelled in sports. At Santa Cruz High School, Mr. Vomvolakis earned all league honors in basketball, and was named All American in football. He went on to play football at MPC before going into the service. He served his country as an Army Medic from 1954 to 1956, and returned to Santa Cruz where he began his career in meat cutting. He would continue on to become meat department manager for Albertsons, spanning close to 40 years in the industry. He enjoyed watching all types of sports, especially college football. He enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and simply driving along both the Santa Cruz Coastline and beautiful trees of the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Sierras. He loved to fish, play the lottery and work in the garden with his wife. Mr. Vomvolakis is survived by his wife, Marian Vomvolakis, his son Scott (Yvonne) Vomvolakis, daughter, Diana (Mark) Vomvolakis-Boeh, daughter Stephanie Vomvolakis (Michelle Kraft), daughter, Jamie (Tony) Vomvolakis-Budding, brothers: George Vomvolakis, Nick (Norma) Vomvolakis, and Michael Vomvolakis. He also leaves his three grandsons, Mason and Colin Sprague, and Blake Boeh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Ellen Vomvolakis, his sisters: Kaye Pfyffer, Penelope Vomvolakis, Alpida Rampone, Maria Steiner, and Irene Bogiatto.
