Obituary of Robert Alfred Weasa

Robert A. Weasa passed away at his Santa Cruz home on March 4, 2013 with his family by his side. He was 89. A long time resident of Santa Cruz. Robert was born in Seattle, Washington one of three children born to Ralph Weasa and Fern (Mayberry) Weasa. He grew up in Seattle and in the 1930's moved to Santa Cruz where his grandfather was Pound Master, for a short time. He later moved to Montana, returning to Seattle where he attended high school. As a teenager, Robert spent a summer riding the rails and living in hobo camps and he also worked 6 months in the Civilian Conservation Corp. Following high school he was inducted in the Army during World War II. He was a Technical Sergeant in the 126th Infantry serving in the Pacific Theater. During his military service he was wounded twice, once by an exploding hand grenade which ended with a two year stay in the hospital. He was awarded a number of commendations including a Purple Heart. Robert returned to Santa Cruz in 1949 following the war and attended business school and becoming a bookkeeper for Penniman Title Co. and later an accountant for Chiorini, Hunt & Buchard. He retired in 1988. Robert was a member of the Santa Cruz Boat Club and he enjoyed ocean and stream fishing, hunting and camping trips. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, June Weasa of Santa Cruz; four daughters, Janet Moody and her husband Larry, Rebecca Rader and her husband Michael, Roxanne Stevens and her husband Dan and Loralee Netto; a sister, Marien Hottle; six grandchildren, Angela Moody, Kenneth Moody, Mitchell Moody, Julianne Shrum, Nathan Rader and Jenna Stevens; he is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian in 1966, his son, Robert Lee, his brother and parents. A private interment will be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA.
