Obituary of Nyme C. Gabriel

Nyme Gabriel passed away on January 6, 2012 at her Aptos home. She was 89. She was Born in Turlock, California on March 11, 1922 and resided in Aptos for 61 years. In her early years she worked in Turlock at Polly Anna Bakery where she met her husband Pat Gabriel. They were married in April of 1946 and moved to Santa Cruz in 1951. Where they raised their two children. She was employed by Sears Department Store for 16 years as a sales representative. She retired in 1987. They moved to Seacliff Mobile Home Park in Aptos where she was very active socially and started the "Chat and Fun" Club. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic minister for many years. Her husband Pat passed away in 1990. In 1995 she met and married Cecil Collier and they enjoyed many years of companionship and travel. Cecil passed away in 2006. Nyme enjoyed dancing, crochet, water color painting, wood carving and going out to lunches with her friends and family. She loved living by the ocean. She leaves her son, John Gabriel of Aptos; her daughter Janet Castro and her husband, Frank "Chico" Castro of Watsonville; her grandson, Rick Castro and his fiance, Jaimee Roberts of Watsonville and great grandson, Coulter. She is also survived by her sister, Rosalie Cunha of Orland, CA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Pimentel. The holy Rosary will be recited at Resurrection Catholic Church 7600 Soquel Dr., Aptos on January 12, 2012 beginning at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the Rosary beginning at 11:00 am. Visitation and viewing will be at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Donations are preferred to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr. Scotts Valley, Ca 95066 or to Resurrection Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
