Obituary of Vernette Irene Elder Godfrey

Vernette Irene Elder-Godfrey Vernette Irene Elder-Wilson-Nash-Godfrey of Capitola, CA, died on September 3, 2011 at her residence, (and totally unwilling to go). Her parents were Robert and Rachel Elder, deceased, of Alma, Michigan. Vernette was preceded in death by husbands Robert H. Wilson, Walter H. Nash and Thornton (Harry) H. Godfrey as well as her brother, Orlo J. Simmons, and only sister, Jeanne Elder Shaw. Vernette belonged to the Capitola Mall Walkers, Daughters of the Nile, Sisters of Hiram and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine. She was a past president of the Capitola-By-The-Sea Soroptimist Club. A life member of the VFW Auxiliary of Watsonville and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Chicago, IL. Vernette had been a volunteer for Project Scout; Live Oak Senior Center with RSVP; and Mid-County Senior Center Gift Shop and AARP Tax Service in Zephyrhills, FL. Survived by her very loved family; daughter Denise R. Butler and grandson Ryan C. Butler; her son, Walter H. Nash and his wife Tracy and granddaughter Randi S. Fritts-Nash. Two surviving brothers; Kenneth E. Elder and his wife Iris and Gerald H. Elder and his wife, Linda. Vernette is also survived by a large, loving and caring extended family encompassing all of her stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with many cousins, nieces and nephews scattered throughout the world. We can not forget all the loving people that touched her life and filled her with so much joy. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
