Rosalind Jaffee

Obituary of Rosalind Jaffee

Rosalind Jaffee, born in New York on January 2, 1920, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2010 in Santa Cruz. A loving mother and grandmother; she will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Rosalind had a long professional career in which she started as a public school secretary with NYC Schools. While working full time, she managed to attend college at night and earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. This led to many years of teaching home economics at various NYC high schools. In 1986, she and her husband Sidney moved to Santa Cruz to be near their kids and grandkids. This is when she realized her life long dream of owning her own home. Rosalind never stopped learning and educating herself. She took many classes at Cabrillo in painting, singing and sculpture. She loved doing water color landscapes and taking long walks down at the beach. Through the years, she was active with all her friends at Cabrillo, friends at Temple Beth El, painting and walking buddies, and choir and neighborhood friends. She is survived by her son and daughter, Mark Jaffee and Linda Chittle, her grand kids, Ben Jaffee, Shashana Chittle, Lacey Chittle and Ian Chittle; her great grand daughter, Elka Rose; her sisters: Diana Gordon, Laura Freedman, and Marilyn Becker. She was preceded in death by her husband Sidney and her son Lewis. A private service will be held for family and friends at Home of Peace Cemetery in Santa Cruz on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 3:30 p.m.
