Obituary of Helge Hermod Daniel Hansen

Helge Hermod Daniel Hansen Helge Hansen of Soquel passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2010, he was 77 years old. Born on February 13, 1933 in Finderup Sogn, Denmark. Helge earned his associates degree at night while earning his apprenticeship in Horticulture during the day. He served as a Lieutenant in the Danish Royal Air Force. He met his wife Vera in Copenhagen where they married in 1956. They immigrated to California in 1961 to Sunnyvale, CA. Helge worked for Nurseryman's Exchange in Half Moon Bay. Helge's love of flowers lead him to Santa Cruz in 1968 when he purchased Barnhill Florist's. He learned the trade of floral designer, and retired after 32 years. Helge enjoyed many hobbies including skiing, golf, horseshoes, orchids, gardening and helping others! He grew prize-winning blooms at Helge Hansen's Orchids in Soquel from 1978 - 2000. Helge is survived by his wife Vera of Soquel, his daughter Connie Thomasser and son-in-law, Jason Thomasser, his grand-daughters Aria and Kira all of Santa Cruz. He is also survived by his loyal dog Milo, cat Smokey and grand-dog Sassy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local SPCA in honor of Helge's love of animals. Services are Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 2500 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz, CA.
