Obituary of Arthur Raymond Adams

Arthur Raymond Adams July 18, 1933-Oct. 27, 2011 Capitola Resident Art Adams, a life-long resident of Santa Cruz County passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 27, 2011. Art graduated in 1951 from Santa Cruz High School. He was a talented athlete who lettered in multiple sports. He continued to play sports throughout the rest of his active life. He loved golfing, fishing, baseball, football and camping. He was an active member of the Senior Men's Club at Valley Gardens Golf Course in Scotts Valley, until he was no longer able to golf. He then replaced these active hobbies with a passion for reading, computers and Photoshop. It was with great pleasure; he had the opportunity to teach computer classes to seniors with his daughter Mary. Art worked for the California Department of Forestry from 1950-1987, except for a tour of duty in the Korean War. He was a Fire Captain for CDF and he also spent several years flying in the CDF spotter planes. He developed and instructed students in wildland fire control and taught fire behavior classes at Cabrillo College. He cherished his monthly lunches with his retired CDF buddies. Fighting fires and protecting the public were his life's work and passion. Art leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Ann. Their house was always open to all and filled with food, family and friends. He is also survived by his daughters, Jeanne Carriere (Dennis) and Mary Adams. He is survived by his grandchildren, Dustin Biliske (Michele), Misty Bianco, Nate Carriere, Lauren Carriere, Garrett Adams and 4 great grandchildren (Kaitlin, Ashley, C.J., Nico). His loving grandchildren will always remember the wonderful trips their "Papa" took them on in the motor home. He will also be fondly remembered for all the things he patiently taught them. Art was preceded in death by his sons, Randy Biliske and Thomas Adams, his foster parents, Hans and Kate Iverson, his brothers, Dick and Howard Adams and his sister, Barbara Scott. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5th, at 2:00pm, at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 2402 Cabrillo College Dr., Soquel. A reception will follow.
