Obituary of Helene Miller

Helene Miller, a long-time resident of Aptos, CA, passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 93, after a nearly two year battle with cancer. Helene was born on February 19, 1924 in New Caledonia, (French territory in the South Pacific) the daughter of Adolfe and Germaine Gratian.

Helene was a talented seamstress and knitter, using her skills to bring joy to others. Helene's home was her sanctuary where she loved hosting and entertaining her friends and family. She was actively involved in the New Comers Club of Santa Cruz County, craft clubs, French club and bridge groups. Helene's all-time favorite activity was playing Mahjong once a week with close friends and was known as an expert player.

Helene was married for over 40 years to Mr. V. Ronald Miller, C.P.A. and became widowed in 1989. Ron and Helene met and were married in New Caledonia where Ron served in the military during WWII and together they moved to California where they lived in Chico, El Cerrito, Stockton, Los Altos and finally Aptos. In Aptos, Ron and Helene founded Trout Gulch Vineyards which was later sold when they moved to the Seascape area.

Helene is survived by her daughter Leslie, her son Max and her dear grandchildren, Chantal and Bryce. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Helene requested a private memorial. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her during her last illness.
