Obituary of Grace D. Diess

Grace D. Diess passed away on March 28, 2013 in Scotts Valley at the age of 97. Grace was raised in Detroit, Michigan by Albert & Mary (Witman) Dersch. Grace and her husband, Stuart W. Diess, moved to Aptos in 1970 where Grace became very active in her community. She was active in several organizations including a 76 year membership and past matron to the Santa Cruz Redwoods Chapter #273 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the First Baptist Church of Aptos, past Noble Grand in the Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge #131- Soquel, and she was a former member of the Dominican Hospital Auxiliary. For many years Grace served as a musician for her church, The Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and the International order of Rainbow Assembly #28. 37 years ago Grace was adopted "Grandma Grace", by Tammy Hoffman in Rainbow, thus becoming a member of the family of Ray & Charlotte Hoffman. She became a grandma of 3 and great grandma to four. She enjoyed spending holidays and family gatherings with them. She was so loved by all of them and she will be deeply missed. Grace is survived by her 2 nieces and 2 nephews, and all the members of the Hoffman family. She is preceded in death by her husband Stuart, and her brother John Dersch. A special thank you goes out to the staff at Oak Tree Villa in Scotts Valley for all their love, kindness, and support of Grace for 13 years and 5 months. She truly loved living there. The family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care. At Grace's request there will be no services.
