Obituary of Vera Bates

Vera Porfema Bates passed away on June 7, 2012. She was 84. Vera was born on April 4, 1928 to Julian and Helen Castro. She has been a resident of Santa Cruz County for the past 75 years, living in Capitola. She worked as a housekeeper for 15 years. Vera's door was always open to anyone. She loved to cook, and spend time at the beach. She especially loved camping with all of her loved ones. Vera is survived by her sons, Joe Sausameda (Renee) and Robert Sausameda; her brothers, John, Julian and Richard Castro; her sisters, Adella Littell and Barbara Oliveira; 5 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 8 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Benjamin, Earl, and Edward Castro; sisters, Catherine Cabrera, Virginia Herring, Olga Baum, and Margaret Castro. A Catholic Blessing Memorial will be held for Vera on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz beginning at 2 pm.
