Obituary of Elvera B Hansen

Vera Hansen of Soquel passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at her home on February 5, 2013, she was 80 years old. Born on October 3, 1932 in Haderslev, Denmark. Vera earned her Cosmetology license in Copenhagen. Vera met her husband Helge in Copenhagen where they were married in 1956. They later moved to a seaport village, Dragør where she opened her own Salon for 5 years. They immigrated to California in 1961 to Sunnyvale, California. They later moved to Santa Cruz in 1968 where she was co-owner with her husband Helge Hansen, of Barnhill Florist. Vera enjoyed her work as a stylist and confidant, working for over 23 years at Hair Talk Salon in Santa Cruz where she met clients and co-workers, many of whom became lifelong friends. She was a wonderful hostess who enjoyed cooking traditional Danish meals and serving many Smorbrodsbørd to her family and friends over the years. Vera and Helge were active members of the San Jose Scandinavian Club for many years, and made many friends through the club. Vera enjoyed spending time with her grand-daughters Aria and Kira, at the park, the beach, or at her home on the Soquel Creek. She was a home-maker, baker, and loved to walk her dog Milo. She enjoyed helping others look their very best with a new cut, color or style. She loved to visit while she worked always making sure there were plenty of cookies or almond cake to go with the coffee and tea she loved to serve. Vera is preceded in death by her husband Helge Hansen, July 10, 2010. She is survived by her daughter Connie Thomasser and son-in-law, Jason Thomasser, her grand-daughters Aria and Kira all of Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local SPCA in honor of Vera's love of animals.
