Obituary of Joseph Marasco

Joseph Francis Marasco passed away peacefully in Santa Cruz, California on January 6, 2014. Known affectionately as Joe, he is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Barbara, brother Tony, five nephews, three nieces and many wonderful friends. Joe's son Tommy, his three brothers and two sisters predeceased him along with his parents from Italy, Tamaso and Maria Isabella. Born May 25, 1929 in North Richmond, California, Joe served his country proudly as a Private First Class for two years as a US Marine during the Korean War. Joe and Barbara moved to Santa Cruz and in 1957 they bought The Shoreview, a Santa Cruz fixture overlooking the beach and Boardwalk. The Shoreview was operated as a motel until 1979 when it was then converted to The Shoreview Apartments which it remains to this day. Joe was known to family and friends as an energetic and generous man who loved living in Santa Cruz, piano music, his Italian heritage and owning The Shoreview who's past and present tenants will remember Joe fondly.
