Obituary of Robert Erling Hanson
Robert E. Hanson of Scotts Valley, CA passed away in Santa Cruz at the age of 88 on February 9, 2013. He was born in Minot, North Dakota on February 24, 1924 and graduated from Kenmare High School. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Army from 1942 until 1946. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 1951. Robert retired from Lockheed, CA, after 32 years as a manufacturing engineer.
An avid music lover, he played guitar, enjoyed carpentry, gardening, traveling and bike riding. He also enjoyed line dancing and playing bingo and was a member of SIRS in Santa Cruz County, CA.
Robert is survived by Maria Hanson, his loving wife of 64 years; daughters Linda Schurg and her husband Wayne Schurg, Leila Berens and her husband Dane Berens, and daughter, Lisa Wolverton; grandchildren Marissa, Ryan, Christopher and Drew; great-grandchildren Madelyn and Samuel.
He will especially be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of life, and his daily drives to the beach which he loved so much. He will be immensely missed by his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held for Robert on Friday, February 15th, at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA, at 11:00 am.
