Obituary of Iris Dell Hansen

Iris Dell Hansen passed away at her daughters home on February 27, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. Iris was born in Turton, South Dakota and was one of five children born to William Valentine and Maude (Tillman) Valentine. She spent her early youth in Huron, South Dakota and Rodeo, California before moving to Santa Cruz. She was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School, class of 1940. Following high school she attended business college in Santa Cruz. Iris worked as a bookkeeper, working for Riverside Lighting until she was 80. She was an expert knitter, winning prizes at the Santa Cruz County Fair. She donated hundreds of baby items, knitting for Santa Cruz Layette Society and the Saint Joseph's Church Knitting Group in Capitola. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, played in the bell choir, played piano for the children's choir and participated in church activities for 53 years. The last 2 years she attended Trinity Presbyterian Chruch and her favorite club was the sewing club. Iris is survived by her daughters, Chris (Hansen) Johnson and her huband, Lynn B. Johnson of Soquel and Debbie (Hansen) Trybom and her husband, Steve Trybom of Santa Cruz; ten grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Michelle Trybom, Bernardine Johnson Parry and her husband Robert, Joseph Johnson and his wife Victoria, Luke Johnson and his wife Lindsey, Dorothy Johnson, Randyn Trybom, Alan Trybom, Antoinette Johnson Osorio and her husband David and Veronica Johnson Alfaro and her husband Arturo. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Iris was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Alan V. Hansen in 1985, her parents, William and Maude Valentine, brothers, Wayne Valentine and David Valentine and her sisters, Naida Hedgepeth and Lucille Hansen. A Catholic Prayer Service will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St, Santa Cruz, CA. on Friday March 8, 2013 at 11:00 am. Viewing hours will be on Friday from 9:00 am until service time at Pacific Gardens Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 420 Melrose Ave., Santa Cruz, CA. on Saturday March 9th at 11:00 am.
