Lowell Jacobs

Obituary of Lowell Edward Jacobs

A 40 year employee with Coast Counties and Pacific Gas and Electric, Lowell worked in Santa Cruz as a gas trouble man and later as dispatcher who knew every street in town. He retired in 1986. Lowell grew up fishing on the wharf and continued to fish throughout his lifetime with family and close friends. His favorite fishing holes were at Loch Lomond and Pincrest, California. He also was a voracious reader of western fiction, especially Louis Lamour, but his favorite movie was Lonesome Dove. Lowell returned from the war craving hamburgers, French fries and milkshakes, always loved a good t-bone steak and never turned down a plate of calamari at the restaurants on the Santa Cruz wharf. Lowell was an active member of the Church of Christ, attending there since childhood. He loved and was loved by many in the congregation and counted them among his closest friends. He participated in the services as a song leader, Bible class teacher, deacon, elder, and mentoring Christian. He is survived by his wife, Lorana, having celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last June. Other surviving family include; sons and daughter in laws, Bruce and Kathy Jacobs of Santa Cruz, Brent and Patti Jacobs of Bend, Oregon, 8 grandchildren: Michael and Christina Jacobs, Matthew and Laura Jacobs, Eric and Chelsea Swanson, Nick and Lindsay Chapman, and 5 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Church of Christ 637 Pacheco Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95065 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be sent to the International Bible Correspondence School in Toronto, Canada or the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
