Obituary of Shirley Ann Steed

Shirley Ann Steed passed away on May 25, 2012 at a local convalescent hosital. She was 85. She was born in Westwood, California on December 23, 1926, the daughter of Hubert Barnes and Edith (Cox) Barnes. Shirley was raised in southern California were she was a graduate of Covina Union High School. In the early 1960's Shirley moved to Santa Cruz County, first living for a short time in Felton and later Santa Cruz. In her younger years she worked in the insurance industry. After the birth of her children, she devoted her time and attention to her family and her home . She was described by her family as a very loving mother. After her children were raised she began a second career building a very successful Avon Cosmetic business and was consistently a regional top sales person.In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, trailer camping, reading, playing the piano, needle work and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her son, Mike Steed of Santa Cruz; daughter, Lynn Steed and her husband, Joe Martinez of Santa Cruz; and her sister, Lorraine Fero of Rimrock, Arizona. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz, CA on Wednesday May 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the care of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
