Obituary of Mary Alves

Mary G, Alves, 97, passed away February 19, 2012 after a lengthy illness. She resided in Friendly Valley in Santa Clarita, CA at the time of her death. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maria & Manuel Carolo, husband Manuel A. Alves, brothers Durval Carolo, Henry Carolo and sister-in-law Sally Carolo. She leaves behind a daughter Isabel Schlicht of Friendly Valley, CA, a son David Alves (Wrena) of Windsor, CA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Michelle Pniewski (Tom) of Saugus, CA, Dennis Alves (Cherise) of Colorado and Denise Halbert (Jeff) of Windsor, CA and 8 great grandchildren - Tessa, Eric, Stephanie, Steven, Carli, Kayla, Holly & Rhett. Mary was born in Portugal in 1914 and came to the United States at age 17 and became a U.S. Citizen. She and her husband were in the dairy business for many years. She belonged to St. Claire's Parish in Santa Clarita at the time of her death. The Funeral procession will leave Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday February 25, 2012 at 10:30 am for St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 435 Monterey Ave., Capitola, CA where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 2271 7th Ave., Santa Cruz, CA. Viewing will be held on Friday from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm at Pacific Gardens Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic charities in her name. Her family wrote: Their mother, grandmother and great grandmother will truly be missed but they know that now she is at peace and free from pain.
