Obituary of Patricia Aileen Ferrin

Patricia Aileen Ferrin passed away peacefully on February 4, 2013 following a brief illness at her home in Santa Cruz. She was 87. Pat was born in Santa Cruz on March 22, 1925 the daughter of Daniel Doyle and Mary (Reilly) Doyle. She grew up in Santa Cruz where she attended Holy Cross Elementary and was a graduate of Holy Cross High School where she was known as "Red". Besides Santa Cruz, she lived in Hayward, San Leandro and Richmond. She was very devoted to her work for the County of Santa Cruz Child Protective Services where she was employed for 36 years. She was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, faithfully attending Mass on Sunday at 11:00 am. She was an avid Giants fan, enjoyed crocheting and weekly lunches with her retired friends. She also enjoyed planning daily dinners with her son Tom. Pat loved gambling and especially enjoyed trips to Reno several times a year. She loved singing old Irish songs and partying with her family. In her earlier days she also liked camping and fishing. She is survived by her daughter, Susan E. Avila and her husband, Francisco Avila; sons, Michael Ferrin and his wife, Suzi and Thomas Ferrin; granddaughter, Sara Jennings and grandsons, Francisco "Paco" Avila, Jr. and Jason Ferrin. She is also survived by two great granddaughters, one great grandson, three nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dixon Ferrin in 1990 and six sisters, Mary, Margaret, Nellie, Annie, Dorothy and Barbara. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church 126 High St., Santa Cruz, CA on Tuesday February 12 at 10 a.m. A vigil prayer service will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Monday February 11 at 6 p.m.
