Obituary of Margaret Jane Jensen

Margaret J. "Frosty" Jensen, passed away unexpectedly on December 20, 2013 at Paradise Villa in Santa Cruz. She was 96. Margaret was born on August 31, 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Harry E. Frost and Mary Elizabeth Frost. She grew up in Omaha and moved to Oceanside in 1940 following her marriage to Lawrence Jensen. She has been a resident of Santa Cruz for the last seven years where she has resided at La Posada and more recently Paradise Villa. She was a devoted wife and mother and was an active volunteer in numerous organizations. In her earlier years she was involved in the P.T.A both at the state and local levels. In 1955 she joined the Grossmont Hospital Auxiliary where for her last fifteen years with the hospital she worked with the hospital chaplains. She was also a member of the City of Hope and the San Diego Zoo Society. Margaret was described by her family as an outgoing, friendly and generous person and could be strong willed. She spent a great deal of her time helping the poor and less fortunate. In her spare time she was an excellent gardener and also enjoyed reading. She is survived by her daughter, Mary "Bunny" Wickum of Scotts Valley; granddaughter, Dr. Suzanne Wickum of Houston, TX; grandson, Jeffrey Wickum and his wife, Jennifer of Scotts Valley. Margaret is also survived by her three great grandchildren, Cooper, Colton and Kylee Wickum. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Lawrence O. Jensen on July 10, 2003 and her only sibling, her brother, Harry Frost III on December 19, 2008. Services will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Thursday December 26, 2013 at 11:00 am. A private interment will take place at El Camino Memorial Gardens in San Diego. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Patty Guillen and the staff of Paradise Villa for their wonderful and loving care. Contributions are preferred to the Santa Cruz S.P.C.A or the American Cancer Society.
