Gene Waide

Obituary of Gene Terry Waide

On Friday, November 24th, 2017, God needed another Angel and so, called Gene Terry Waide home. Gene was the kindest, most patient man you could ever meet, with an, "I'll be dern," or "gee minney" being the extent of his vexation. Originally from Texline, Texas, he grew up without a formal education, and then served in the Army National Guard leaving after his enlistment with the rank of Sergeant. As a civilian he became an indispensable explosive and rocket research engineer to his company, making several attempts to retire in his late 60s and early 70s only to be requested back by his company again and again. He has two patented inventions accredited to his name. Finally in retirement, he was rarely seen without his camera; taking pictures of road trip adventures, tractors at fairs, camping trips and family gatherings. We barely recognize the bottom half of his face due to that camera.  He was a loyal member of The Grey Bears, American Legion, and The Elks Lodge. Gene is survived by the love of his life of 34 years, Renée; two daughters, Kristina and Lavon; step children, Ciro, Rita and Mona; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters. He will be deeply missed and was truly one of the good ones. A memorial will be held on Friday, December 15th at 2pm at Bamboo Garden in Capitola.
