Obituary of David Herbert Millang

David H. Millang passed away on January 11, 2013 at his home in Aptos from end stage kidney failure. He was 91. Born in New York City, New York, Dave moved to Capitola as a small child with his family. He attended Soquel Elementary School and was a graduate of Chaminade High School. Dave joined the California National Guard in 1938 and was mobilized with his unit after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served in the U.S. Army during World War Two in the Pacific Theater and later in the Korean War. He was a Commissioned Officer upon his discharge in 1954. Dave later attended and was a graduate of the University of San Francisco. He worked many years in the insurance industry as an adjuster. He worked for Boston Insurance Company, owned his own business, David H. Millang and Associates and later for Chubb. Always active and looking for ways to stay busy after retiring, Dave found his way into the funeral industry. He began working for Norman's Family Chapel and later for Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel where he was a dedicated and very valued member of the staff. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and a former member of the Santa Cruz Host Lions Club. He was a talented and skilled carpenter and wood worker who could build nearly anything and was always willing to help anyone who had a need. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sallie Millang of Aptos, son, Richard Millang of Watsonville, daugthers, Melanie Montgomery of Falls Church, VA, and Christine Heinbockel of Meadow Valley, CA, sister, Betty-Anne Tyler of Capitola, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Millang. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Dave on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Resurrection Church, 7600 Soquel Dr. in Aptos beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to the Alzheimer's Assocation, or to Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
