Obituary of Louis George Billars
LOUIS GEORGE BILLARS
April 19, 1915 - April 8, 2012
Louis Billars was born and raised in Kaylor, South Dakota (SD). He loved math, music and baseball (he was a semi-pro), and focused on a career in education. He achieved a BA from Yankton College (SD) and ultimately a Masters from Stanford University. He became a teacher in SD, where he met his future wife, Fern Evelyn Havlena. They dated for a year, but then Louis was drafted into military service and transferred to Southern California. He asked Fern to join him, and they were married on April 10, 1942 in La Jolla CA. They were together 65 years, during which time Louis spent several years in active military duty in the South Pacific during WWII. After the War, Louis devoted his career to teaching/administration for the California School System.
Louis and Fern (deceased) had three children: Susan (deceased), Antoinette and Stephen; and 5 grand-children and 3 great-grandchildren.
