George Fisk

Obituary of George Alvin Fisk

George was raised in Hollywood, moving there at the age of 4, he lived in Hollywood until graduating from Hollywood High in 1946. Once graduated, George enlisted in the United States Navy. He served two years with the Navy as part of the Occupation Forces at the end of World War II. As part of the diving crew, George's job required him to not only be adventurous, but also brave. He was required to dive to retrieve mines that had not yet detonated in the ocean. Once returning from over seas, George pursued his education at USC, graduating with a bachelor's degree in engineering. George moved to Santa Cruz County in 1962 and shortly thereafter married his wife Joanne Gates. He then spent the next 35 years working as an engineer at the Lockheed Test Base. It was here that he continued diving for the Navy, assisting them with secret military testing. George retired from Lockheed in 1981, but didn't slow down. He took on the persona of "Farmer George". He happily maintained, and took great pride in his orchard on his property in Aptos. Farming was only one of George's passions, he also enjoyed restoring antique and foreign cars, a hobby he shared with his fellow members of the Salinas Car Club. He was an active member of the HAMM radio club. He enjoyed socializing, getting to know, and becoming friends with people over seas using his hamm radio. George was also a Toast Master, giving speeches and writing papers on various issues in his community. George loved animals and over the years had many dogs, cats, horses, donkeys and goats. No services are planned at this time for George, who is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joanne Fisk; his daughters Georgeanne Chan, Cynthia Fisk and Susan Herrick; his sons Bill Fisk and George Fisk Jr.; his step-sons Steven Horlock and Scott Horlock; his 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A special thank you goes to John and Shannon Henderson for their friendship, help and support over the years.
