June Pierce

Obituary of June Pierce

June Pierce passed away peacefully in Santa Cruz on October 28, 2013 at the age of 89. Born in Mingo Junction, Ohio, she moved to Felton Ca. after many years in San Diego county. "Junebug" loved gardening, singing, and dancing. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She was especially fond of France, where she would stay for extended periods. June made friends all over the world. She taught French and Spanish at a private school in Escondido, CA, before moving to Felton. She was active in the community, volunteer teaching ESL to families in Santa Cruz, and was also a regular volunteer at the Ben Lomond Library, where she loved story hour with the kids. June sang in the Cabrillo chorus for many years and also played piano at home. She enjoyed mystery novels and games with the family. She had a generous heart and donated to several charities annually, including Valley Churches United. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Helen McNeal Harshman as well as her brother Jimmy Harshman and sister, Lois Scholl. June is survived by her sister Shirley Murray, her sons, Michael and Jamie Alperin, and Rob, Dave, and Matt Pierce. She also leaves five grandchildren and one great granddaughter, all of whom she loved dearly; along with many loving nieces and nephews that she adored. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Sunshine Villa and Hospice of Santa Cruz County for making her passing as comfortable as possible. Contributions in her name may go to the Ben Lomond Library, thank you. Please dance.
