Obituary of Vincent Carrillo

Services will be held on Friday, February 24, for Vincent Carrillo Jr, who passed away peacefully at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz on February 17, 2012, with his family at his bedside. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was 77 years old. Born in South San Francisco to Vincent and Trinidad Carrillo who emigrated from Mexico, Mr. Carrillo was very proud of his Mexican heritage. He moved to Pajaro at the age of 10 and was instrumental in forming the non-profit organization "Together in Pajaro" which was dedicated to the improvement of neighborhood and business relationships in the community that he loved so very much. Mr. Carrillo graduated from Watsonville High School, attended Cabrillo College and earned his associates of arts degree at San Jose State University. He served his country in the US Army, joining in 1955. He retired as a cost accountant with Granite Construction in Watsonville following a 31-year career with the company. Mr. Carrillo's true love was developing and maintaining his family apartment complexes in Pajaro, Carrillo/Mendoza. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. His family will forever cherish the many memories of his love for walking, reading, and barbequing; always enjoying a good martini with friends. Mr. Carrillo is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Trudy Carrillo of Santa Cruz; son and daughter, Rodney Carrillo, Veronica Carrillo, and step-son Ray Honeycutt his wife Debbie, all residing in Watsonville; and his three beloved grandchildren: Robert Bowman, John Vigil, and Ruth Ann Honeycutt; one great grandchild, Justin Rifkind. He also leaves behind two brother-in-laws and one sister-in law and many nieces and nephews from as far away from the east coast and on the west coast. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Carrillo in 1992, and his sister, Cathy Mendoza in 2011. A Catholic Blessing Service will be held on Friday, February 24 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery,(2445 E. Lake Ave.) in Watsonville. In lieu of flowers, please make any charitable contributions in Vincent's memory to the Katz Cancer Resource Center C/O Dominican Hospital Foundation (1555 Soquel Drive, Santa Cruz CA 95065)
