Obituary of Vivian Ann Logan

Vivian played like a champion until the end. Notre Dame would be so proud of one of their biggest fans- If the Notre Dame football game was on, everyone knew to enter quietly. The game must go on.. A farewell ceremony and blessing will be held in Santa Cruz on Wednesday for Vivian Logan who passed away peacefully on September 10, 2012 at her Scotts Valley home. Born on April 24, 1927 in Vancouver, Washington, she was 85 years old. She was a resident of Santa Cruz County for 58 years and worked as a registered nurse with a career spanning over 67 years here. Vivian was dedicated to her profession and continued to work as a caregiver for elderly patients following her retirement. She started her career at Stanford Hospital, and later at Sister's Hospital on West Cliff Drive; moving to the original Dominican Hospital location that is now Branciforte Plaza. Vivian was the nurse for long time Santa Cruz M.D Duncan Holbert. She had a long career with Visiting Nurse Association, and later retired as director of VNA. Vivian was instrumental in the founding of the Meals on Wheels program in Santa Cruz County. Her family will remember her as a devoted mother and provider who consistently gave to those who were in need. She was affectionately known as the "cookie lady" and not anyone entering her home was able to leave without taking her fresh baked cookies along. Her Sunday dinners were very special (always including wonderful desserts) and many fond memories will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her four daughters and sons in-law, Tami Barrille of Virginia, Karen and Fen Cooper; Sue and Paul Matteucci all of Santa Cruz; Debbie and Randy Welty of Felton, and her son, Jerry Logan of Santa Cruz. Vivian also leaves her sisters; Margaret Stephens of Los Altos, Fran DuPret of Monte Rio, CA; her brother, Mel Lum of Sun Valley, Oregon, and her beloved grandchildren: Sara and Jonathan Barrille, Vivian Cooper, Elizabeth Matteucci, Morgan Spenla, Jordan Logan, Kyle Logan, Conner Logan, and Andy Mullen, along with her ten great grandchildren. Vivian was preceded in death by her grandson Thomas Cooper in 2009. Burial will be on Wednesday, September 19, at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery 2271 7th Ave. in Santa Cruz. The service will be at Holy Cross Church (126 High Street) on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 beginning at 3 p.m. We would like thank Hospice of Santa Cruz County and especially nurse Kathleen who was mom's favorite nurse, and Dr. Jack Watson, whose bedside care for our mom was amazing.
