Donald Van Den Berg, April 14, 1947 - April 18, 2012 42 year Resident of Santa Cruz Don Van Den Berg, born April 14, 1947 in Haarlem, Holland, to Mania and Hugo Van Den Berg, husband of the late Mikie Van Den Berg, died peacefully in Santa Cruz on April 18, 2012 surrounded by his family. He is survived by a wide circle of loving friends and family. Don was one of the first and longest lived kidney transplants in the world thanks to a perfect donor match from his identical twin brother, Egon Van Den Berg. Don had a wide range of interests and passions. His greatest pleasures in life were his grandchildren, helping others, and salsa dance. Don made friends easily and kept them throughout his life. He was a proud father to Chris and Mike Holt and a doting grandpa to Maisy and Miles Holt. Following his graduation from UCSC in the early 70s, Don worked as Bursar at Crown College, Chief Project Manager for the building of Temple Beth El in Aptos, for Lomak Property Group, and Century Management. A Memorial will be held on Friday, April 20th at Temple Beth El in Aptos, beginning at 11 a.m. A burial will follow at Beit Shalom (Home of Peace) Cemetery on Meder Street on the west side of Santa Cruz.
