Frank Moller

Obituary of Frank D. Moller

Frank Delger Moller, Jr. A dedicated husband, father, and grandparent, Frank Moller died on Friday, January 28, 2011, after a prolonged illness, 10 days after his 85th birthday. Frank Moller began his life in Oakland, CA, born January 8, 1926, the only child of Kathleen (Dolly) and Frank Moller, Sr. His paternal grandparents and great-grandparents were prominent citizens of Oakland, owning much of the downtown area. Frank grew-up in Piedmont, graduating from Piedmont High School. His parents moved to Carmel, CA, at the time he was accepted into Stanford University. His education was interrupted during World War ll, when he voluntarily enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the age of 17. He was stationed for a short time in Nevada for Pilot training. When the war ended in 1945, he never completed that training, but later in life, in 1970, he received his Private Pilot's license, and in 1971, his Commercial License. He loved flying, taking immaculate care of his Citabria airplane, and taking every opportunity to "soar with the eagles". Frank met Kathleen (Kay) while attending Stanford. He was married to Kay at the young age of 20, until her death in 1991. They had one daughter, Suzanne (Suzie) Moller Lankes, who lives in Aptos. Frank worked for 15 years for the Shell Oil Company as Chief Auditor and Controller at Shell's headquarters in New York City. He and his family lived in nearby Syosset, Long Island. During part of those years, as an auditor, they had the opportunity to see much of the country, traveling to Shell offices throughout the US. He left Shell in 1963, moving his family back to Carmel, CA to be close to his parents. They settled in the Seascape area of Aptos, and in 1964 Frank started working for Granite Construction Company at their home-office in Watsonville. He retired in 1991 as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Corporate Secretary. He was instrumental in taking the Company public in 1990. In 1999, eight years after his wife's death, Frank married Annemarie Happee. Annemarie and her husband, Dr. John Happee, who died in 1994, had been very close friends of Kay and Frank's for many years. Annemarie and Frank enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, and had taken many enjoyable cruises over the years. They also traveled several times to Holland to visit Annemarie's family. They enjoyed daily walks on the beach, and especially loved attending Stanford football games as well as the 49er games where he had season tickets for forty years. Frank touched the hearts of many and was very well respected by all. He cared deeply about his family, friends, business associates, and acquaintances. He is remembered by all as a kind, fair, thoughtful, and generous man. Frank is survived by his wife, Annemarie Happee Moller of Aptos; his daughter, Suzanne (Suzie) Moller Lankes, of Aptos; his grandchild, Scott C. Lankes, of Sacramento. Annemarie's four children: Dirk (Mary Jo); Neil (Jo Lynne); Bryan (Joy); and Jean-Paul (Nicole) and Annemarie's 11 grandchildren. At his request, no service will be held. The family will scatter his ashes at sea. He greatly admired the work of Hospice of Santa Cruz.
