Obituary of Roy E. June

ROY E. JUNE The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Capitola on Thursday, August 18th, for Roy June. He passed away peacefully at his Santa Cruz home on August 11, 2011 with his loving family at his bedside. Born in Sacramento, he was 81 years old. Mr. June moved to Santa Cruz 45 years ago. He worked in the original Cooper House of Santa Cruz as a court reporter with the Santa Cruz County Courts. He retired with Santa Clara County Superior Court, and his career in court reporting spanned over 50 years. Roy was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Community in Capitola, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #971 in Santa Cruz, earning the esteemed rank of 4th Degree. He was a member of P.E.R.S, .and also was a fan of Big Band Music; playing the trombone in his own band in his younger years. Roy was talented at handicapping race horses as a hobby. Even though his illness kept him from going to the track, he won on- line bets for races at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes using formulas that he developed. He will forever be remembered for his devotion to his children and grandchildren and the joy he received while watching them participate in all of their school activities and athletic events. His children, grandchildren, and friends, will forever cherish and continue to strive through his examples of integrity, honesty, and love of life for all mankind. Mr. June is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann June of Santa Cruz, his sons, Michael June of Marina, and Dan (Christy) Gibbs of Aptos; his daughters, Carrie Gibbs of Santa Cruz, Nancy (Jim) Cason and Lori (David) MacDonald both of Hollister; and Sue Anne (Matt) Rosso of Santa Cruz. He also leaves his sister; Patricia Henderson of Sacramento, his eight grandchildren; Brooke Rosso, Michael Rosso, Bryan Little, Elise MacDonald, Joey Gibbs, Jennifer June, Alexis June, and Robby Gibbs; two great grandchildren, Nico Rosso and Riley Rosso and numerous nieces, nephews, and loving extended family. The mass will be celebrated on August 18, 2011, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (435 Monterey Ave.) in Capitola, beginning at 11 a.m. A vigil service and recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday evening, August 17, at 7 p.m. at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz. The committal service and burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sacramento on Friday, August 19th, beginning at 1 p.m. The family asks that any kind acts of charity be made to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School (PO BOX 610 Thoreau, New Mexico 87323, Or Hospice of Santa Cruz County, (940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA. 95066.)
