Obituary of Edna G. Fortino

Edna G. Fortino Services will be Tuesday for Edna G. Fortino who passed away on September 28, 2010 at Dominican Oaks. She was 93. Edna was born on May 13, 1917 in Seattle, Washington to William and Mary Grace Scharninghausen. She moved with her family in 1935 to San Francisco. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1939. She taught school in Monterey County before her marriage to James Fortino in May of 1941. After World War II she settled in Chico where her husband had a law practice. She enjoyed taking classes at Chico State University, playing bridge and her family and home. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters and the University Women. In 2001 she moved to Santa Cruz where she resided at Dominican Oaks. While at Dominican Oaks she enjoyed playing bridge, taking exercise classes and Italian classes. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Fortino in 1977. Her survivors include her son, James Fortino and his wife, Sue of Sacramento; daughter, Janet Loehr and her husband Bryan of Santa Cruz; brother, William Scharninghausen of San Rafael; sister, Bunny Lundborg of San Francisco; she is also survived by three grandchildren; Kathryn Fortino, Michael Fortino and Anika Loehr-Howser and five great grandchildren; Kaylee, Shayla, Delilah, James and Hayden. A memorial service will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA on Tuesday October 5, 2010 at 11:00 am. A private interment will be in Chico Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
