Dave, My last memories was your 50th birthday party... you were quite the dancer! Oh, and while I was walking up bay, you stopped to ask about my golf game. You had a great personality and you were so full of life. You had such a great outlook on life and with people. I hope to see you on the other side. Save a dance for me. :)Your friendship is valued by many.

Dear Debbie, Jackie, Amanda, Kirsten and Sophie, I am so very sad to hear about Dave's passing. He was a wonderful guy, always cheerful and upbeat, so kind, and just so great to be around! Being neighbors on Sherman Street with our young children and all the fun our families had will always be a very special memory. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
God Bless you all... xoxo

Dave was just an amazing man. We knew him half as well as we would have liked and that in and of itself is part of his legacy. His zest for life was infectious and he just made you feel good. If you didn't know him, you would want to. If you did, you looked forward to seeing him again. He will be missed, but life and energy like that just doesn't disappear, it goes on and on forever. We will always remember Dave for the life he brought into the room. The way he lived his life is an inspiration to all of us to be thankful for what is really important in life. We know you will miss him and our thoughts are with you. Nini & Gary

Dear Debbie and family,
You have written about Dave's journey and yours so powerfully for these many months, my life is changed as a result. I make it a point to do something fun every day, and to let others know how much I love them.
I kept hoping that with the combination of Dave's huge love of life and his family, plus with so many friends praying for and rooting for him to make it, that a miracle would happen.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Dave,
How did manage 50 employees, 75 general contractors, 100's of vendors and inspectors all from 1 cell phone, keep your cool and go home smiling each day? Truly an amazing man. People that never met you have approached and contacted me to express their utmost respect and love just from the way people talk and describe you.

I was deeply saddened today learning of Dave's passing. My deepest condolences to his family for their loss.
Nearly a half decade has gone by since I last saw my dearest childhood friend. I have to this day such fond memories of him and his family who lived up the street on James Ave. I remember vividly how welcome I felt in their home, as if I was a member of the family. The Lake Tahoe vacations, delivering the tribune together, riding our bikes, Kezar stadium, Street football at Laurie Duncan park in our "official" collection of 49er uniforms, Bay Meadow's track, the memories gone on. When his family moved to Saratoga I visited a few times, but at that young age the distance was too great and we drifted apart.
Reading about his loving family, successful career and the many friends he has garnered along the way brings me great joy knowing that he had good life, albeit to short for such a kind soul. He will be missed now as he was years back when he first moved away.
Fare thee well my friend, may we meet again on the other side. May you rest in peace.

To Debbie and all the Calhoun girls, so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. I still remember the first time Dave walked in to Another Bike Shop and started talking about mountain bikes. He was so friendly, and easy going, and such a pleasure to work with. His positive outlook on life was so contagious to those around him. There was nothing better then a visit from Dave to the shop if someone was having a bad day. By the time you were done helping Dave, you couldn't help but be in a good mood. His positive outlook was hard to not be a part of.
When I told the guys at the shop today that Dave had lost his battle with cancer, I saw a couple moist eyes. The guys really liked and respected him. From all of us at Another Bike Shop, please accept our sincerest condolences. I know we all look forward to shredding some trails with Dave again someday. We'll be listening in the woods for his hoots and laughter as he comes riding by.
