Obituary of Virginia May Monohan

Virginia Monohan, aged 92, passed away on March 17, 2013 from the complications of Alzheimer's. She was a resident of Felton since 1966. Prior to that she and her family lived in Oakland while enjoying summers in Felton. Virginia was known for her gentle ways and thoughtfulness. She and her late husband, Neil, would often entertain friends at their home in Felton. They loved to visit family and friends and enjoyed many gatherings with them. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992 with a large gathering at St. John's Catholic Church in Felton. She was a past president of the St John's Altar Society. Virginia loved her husband deeply and joins him now in the loving company of Jesus. She is survived by her sons, Terry and Dennis, who cherish the memory of her constant love, care and affection. Virginia was known as "Grandma Cookie" by her three grandchildren, Bridget, Andrew & James, because she loved to prepare for them delightful varieties of baked goods. She is survived by many close friends, including her lifelong friend, Ann Bailey of Castro Valley/Hayward; by her devoted friend, Sarah Pink, her loving niece, Barbara Ham and longtime friend, Joe Mendoza. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in her name to St. John's Catholic Church, 120 Russell Ave, Felton CA 95018. The family acknowledges with sincere gratitude the many years of loving care provided by her caregivers. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 21st at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz, from 4p.m. until 7p.m. There will be a second viewing at St. John's Catholic Church on Friday, March 22nd from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at which time a Funeral Mass will be held with the interment taking place at 3:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2271 7th Ave. in Santa Cruz.
