Obituary of Sheldon Hertz

Sheldon Hertz passed away at his home in Santa Cruz with family and friends by his side on Aug 20th, 2013. Born in New York he moved to Los Angeles at age 13 where he later met his loving wife Natalie of 59 years and raised 2 daughters. In 1971 he retired from the office furniture business and relocated to Santa Cruz where he built his dream home in the hills of Soquel. Soon after that he realized retirement wasn't for him which is when he pursued his dream of helping others. For many years he volunteered and sat on the board of directors at the Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center and the Sunflower House. Throughout those years he made his mark in Santa Cruz helping troubled teens. In 1982 Sheldon stumbled into an opportunity and once again went into business and started Budget Office Furniture. Not long after it was taken over by his 2 daughters until 2007. Sheldon's true love was working with wood. He became an accomplished fine woodworker. His bowl collection and furniture pieces will forever be cherished. He is preceded in death by his wife Natalie and his brother Robert Hertz. He is survived by his daughters Laurie Hertz, Carol Bernie, son in law Cliff Bernie. Sister Irene Cooper, brother in law Dan Cooper. Grandchildren Jeffrey and Kevin Katsulis Shannon and Connor Plant, nieces Rebecca and Annie Alonzi. Those wishing to join in his celebration of life are welcome on Sunday Sept 22nd at 3:00 pm which will be held at home 192 Delaveaga Pk Rd, Santa Cruz, 95062.
