Jean Colby

Obituary of Jean Helen Colby

Jean Colby passed away quietly in Santa Cruz, California on September 11, 2012 of a cerebral hemorrhage. It was a shock for the family as she had been in wonderful health, but then the Lord knows the day and the hour that He is calling us home. She was 80 years old at the time of her passing, although she would not have admitted that age to anyone. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she attended Sacred Heart High School. Her family later moved to El Monte, California, but the happiest 50 years of her life were spent in Santa Cruz, California where she lived with her husband Wayne E. Colby and her two very spoiled and very loved cats, Tigger and Skipper. She always said that Santa Cruz was the best place in the country to live. Jean was an Accountant for EBSCO Industries in Santa Cruz, California, and later worked as a bookkeeper for the Nickelodeon Theatre in Santa Cruz, California. She loved working at the theatre and especially enjoyed all of the movies that she got to see and getting to know the theatre crowd. Her all-time favorite thing to do was to travel. She and her husband, Wayne, travelled to all of the states in the USA and also made trips into Canada and Mexico. She also made extensive trips to the central valley to visit children and grandchildren. She loved her church, Calvary Chapel Santa Cruz and all of the members. She loved the worship team, but especially Ken, Pat, Bill and Cece. Although our Pastor Dave moved to Southern California, he was always her favorite Pastor. She would tell us that if Pastor Dave was ever teaching within 50 miles of Santa Cruz that she wanted to go! But she was also looking forward to getting to know our new Pastor Matt and his family. Jean is survived by her husband of 34 years, Wayne E. Colby, who was the love of her life. She is also survived by her daughter, Lynn Anderson of Capitola, her son, Mike Anderson of Santa Cruz, her step-daughter, Cheryl Holland of Idaho, her step-son, Chris Colby of Idaho, her daughter-in-law, Sheri Anderson of Bakersfield, her daughter-in-law, Carla Flint of Bakersfield, and her brother, Jack Breskovich of Arizona. Jean was preceded in death by her Mother, Jewell Breskovich of Bakersfield, and her son, Craig Anderson of Bakersfield. She also has 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to gather at Calvary Chapel Santa Cruz, 1500 Green Hills Road, Suite #101, Scotts Valley, CA 95066 on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 2:00pm for a celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Jean had a wonderful, joy filled life and she loved her family and our Lord with all her heart. Even though she was blessed with 80 years on this earth, it is never long enough for those of us who love her and dearly miss her.
