Obituary of Gregory Alan Scurfield

Greg Scurfield August 8, 1947 - March 30, 2013 Greg Scurfield, beloved son of Gloria and the late Jack Scurfield, passed peacefully and comfortably at home in Aptos, surrounded by his family, after a heroic battle with cancer. Greg's spark will continue on through his family. He is survived by his brother's Geoff Scurfield (Dawn) of Watsonville; John Scurfield (Zoie) of Aptos; sister Jill Bates (Mike) of Santa Cruz; nieces Jacqueline Bates and Rene Scurfield; nephews Austin Bates and Drake Fennelly; Uncle Ralph Scurfield (Barbara); cousins: Jane Weaver; Judy Whitney (Marlin) (Son, Mar & Daughter, Michele); David Whelan (Daughters, Kate & Jenny); Don Scurfield (Trish) (Son, Christopher); Dave Scurfield (Mary) (Son, Jack & Daughter, Abby); Steve Scurfield (Son, Tanner) and his best pal, Rowdy, his dog. Grandparents, the late, John and Lena Scurfield and Cliff and Doris Beyer. Greg was born in Sacramento, attended Encina High School and American River College, where he achieved his A.A. degree. His interests were widespread, whether it was lending a hand to a friend in need, free style skiing, or being a handyman. Greg excelled as a landscape designer. He was also a sports fan, Go Giants and Niners! His circle of friends was large, touching many lives with his loving spirit, compassion, and wonderful sense of humor. His energy and enthusiasm for life are an inspiration to those who knew him. He will be missed by many friends and family. Greg's time will now be spent planting beautiful flowers in heaven's garden, playing with all his dog's long gone, and greeted by old family and friends. According to his wishes, no services will be held but, his ashes will be scattered at sea. A celebration of Greg's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Greg's name to the Santa Cruz S.P.C.A on Chanticleer Avenue or to Hospice of Santa Cruz.
