Obituary of Robert Warren Young

Robert W. Young passed away in Santa Cruz at Maple House II, on August 26, 2012 of Parkinson's Disease as a result of exposure to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam. He has been a resident of Santa Cruz for the past 43 years. Bob was born in Madden, Massechusetts, the son of Everett and Dorothy (Hatch) Young. He grew up in Melrose, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Melrose High School and later attended Orange Coast Community College in southern California. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950 and retired as a Captain after thirty years of service. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his military career he worked as a conductor at Roaring Camp and also was very actively involved selling at the Santa Cruz Flea Market. Bob was a great cook and also a very talented athelete, playing high school football and later hand ball and raquet ball. He was an active member of the Marine Corps League and the Retired Officers Association. He was descibed as a brave and courageous man. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Young;two sons, Mark Young and Carl Young and was also survived by 5 grandchildren.
