Betty Henton

Obituary of Betty Vivian Henton

The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in Capitola on Wednesday, May 30, for Betty Henton who passed away at her Capitola home on May 11, 2012 at the age of 86. She was proud of her Italian heritage, born in Fresno, CA on November 2, 1925, to Giuseppe and Marietta Nardino who immigrated to the United States. Betty learned from a very early age that hard working ethics and devotion to family were key elements in a long and fulfilled life. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in Fresno, and later in medical offices in Santa Cruz. She met her husband, Ed Henton, while working in a plumbing shop in Fresno, as he was returning to his job there following his military service in the US Army during WW II. They raised their family in Fresno, moving to Santa Cruz in 1964, when Ed's work brought him to the new construction site of UCSC. For many summers after moving to Santa Cruz, the Henton's home would be filled with many friends and family, enjoying the beach and escaping the summer heat of the San Joaquin Valley. Betty moved to Capitola in 2007, and was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Henton, her sister and parents, and his survived by her children Ken (Janet) Henton, Jan (Dean) Gregg; grandchildren Tim and Marlin Henton, and Erin Gregg. She also leaves her great- grandchildren, Taya and Azure Henton. Betty's grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy, and her love and devotion to them was paramount in her life. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Tuesday evening May 29, beginning at 6 p.m. The mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 30, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (435 Monterey Ave. Capitola) beginning at 10 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Santa Cruz, beside her late husband Ed Henton, immediately following the mass. The family wishes to thank Doctors Christopher O'Grady and Raj Singh for their attentive care; the staff of Dominican Home health and all the Hospice nurses and aids for the their exceptional care and support; and home caregivers Christina, Erika, and Lalonda. Donations may be made in Betty's name to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA. 95066.
