Obituary of Jose Francisco Vega

JOSE FRANCISCO VEGA Services will be held on Monday and Tuesday in Santa Cruz for Jose Francisco Vega who passed away at his Santa Cruz home on December 30, 2010, following a lengthy illness. His loving family was at his bedside when he passed. Born in Mexico City, he was 58 years old. Mr. Vega moved to the Santa Cruz area 35 years ago, and was employed with Campbell's Mushrooms in Pescadero, and later with Big Creek Lumber Company. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church and will be remembered as a man who loved his family, particularly spending time with his grandchildren. His hobbies were camping, listening to music, and visiting State Parks. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Luz Maria Vega of Santa Cruz; his children Arturo and wife Liz Vega, and 4 grandsons of Los Lomas; Nancy Vega and husband Francisco, and 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson; Gabby Vega and 3 granddaughters; Maribel Vega and husband Cesar, and 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson; and Victor and Jasmin Vega and grandson all of Santa Cruz and his companion dog Ramo. He is survived by his 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Mr. Vega also leaves many beloved nieces nephews and cousins residing in Mexico. Friends may pay their respects at a viewing on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin that evening at 7 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday January 4, 2011 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church (515 Frederick St.) beginning at 10 a.m. A burial rite will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Santa Cruz.
