Lauren Torrent

Obituary of Lauren Hannah Torrent

Lauren Torrent was born June 26, 1918 to William and Martha Schroeter in Ellinwood, Kansas. She went to the presence of the Lord April 11, 2012 at Santa Cruz, California. She graduated From Ellinwood High School, June 1938, and Kansas City Art Institute. An excellent cook, she taught her roommates how to make potato soup and raisin pie, one returning to find some else's pie nailed to the wall. She resided in Santa Barbara for 34 years and moved to Santa Cruz 7 years ago. Lauren and William Donald Moore, a warrant officer in the U.S. Army, were married October 31, 1943. After the war, they moved to Chicago. Mr. Moore was a professional organist who began to use the stage name of Shay Torrent. Her husband Shay went to be with Christ in 2004. She is survived y her children, Michele Moore of Scotts Valley, California; Greg (Laurel) Moore of Rainier, Oregon; Raybo Moore of LaPorte, Colorado; Stacy (Joseph) Fox of Felton, California; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Lauren was a truly great mother, full of Christ, amply supplied with love, understanding, kindness, patience, and common sense. She had a constancy of joy and humor, and the ability to see life in perspective. Mom loved to sew and knit; never shying away from slippery satins and nubbly wools. She made lovely quilts still cherished by her family. She had a lovely singing voice, but her forte was in art. Through life, Lauren was constantly at work refurbishing, decorating and painting the family's homes; also producing a number of life-sized figures which she sculpted from walnut logs. She loved God's word, and proclaimed it throughout her life, not in words but through her graceful, loving and giving character. A graveside ceremony will be on Monday April 16, 2012 at Santa Barbara Cemetery (901 Channel Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93108) beginning at 11 a.m.
