Obituary of Joseph Anthony Barilati

Joseph Anthony Barilati passed away at home on May 27, 2012 with his loving family by his side. He was 89. Joe was born on March 4, 1923 the son of Victor Barilati and Angelina (Erba) Barilati. He grew up in Scotts Valley and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Santa Cruz High, Class of 1941 and the Smith School of Business. He worked for 28 years at the Santa Cruz County Bank. Following his retirment he was the bookeeper for J Kennth and Ruby Marion with whom he developed and enjoyed a close friendship over the years. He was a devoted husband, and son and a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing. He went on numerous hunting trips with his brothers in law Joe and Jack and his close friend Vic. He was very active in Little League and was involved at the local and district levels. Joe served many years on the Santa Cruz High Alumni Scholarship Committee and was on the finance committee for the United Way. He also sold Christmas Trees with the Boy Scouts for 17 years. He was also a member of the Optimist Club and was the treasurer for the Marconi Club for 37 years. He was an avid 49er 's and Giants fan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne Barilati of Santa Cruz, daughter, Janet Dvorak and her husband Bill of Watsonville; son, Jeff Barilati and his wife, Dena of Santa Cruz; brother, Enrico Barilati and his wife, Sally of Santa Cruz; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Stagnaro of Santa Cruz; three grandchildren, Lauren Dvorak, Isabella Barilati and Nicholas Barilati; he was also very fond of his numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Villa Maria Del Mar, 21918 East Cliff Dr., Santa Cruz, Ca. on Monday June 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions are preferred to the charity of your choice, Hospice of Santa Cruz, 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, CA. 95066 or to the Sisters of the Holy Name, 21918 East Cliff Dr., Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
