Obituary of Kendyl Louise Uppstrom Evans

Kendyl, 48, passed away Sunday, January 6th at Dominican Hospital surrounded by family. Her death marks the end of a very courageous three year battle with cancer. She was born and lived her life in Santa Cruz, graduated from Harbor High School in 1982, received a BA Degree in Marketing from San Jose State University in 1990. Kendyl began her work experience in retail at Marini's Bikinis (now Marini's At The Wharf). She worked several years at the Beginnings Clothing Stores in Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley. Upon graduation, Kendyl entered the technology field starting at Borland as an Administrative Assistant, then moved into Marketing where she did product marketing and worked on events. After Borland, Kendyl worked at Catapulse, she also worked part-time for a Hawaiian company, Referentia, that makes online learning tools; later she did direct marketing for Adobe, managing email advertising and awareness campaigns. At the time of her death, she was on medical leave from her position as Global Marcom Manager at Seagate Technology. Kendyl enjoyed her work with clients and co-workers receiving exceptional support throughout her years of cancer treatment. Kendyl is survived by her husband, Wade, and father, Kenneth Uppstrom (wife Fran) of Oregon and mother, Barbara Oyama (husband Richard) of Santa Cruz, sister Suzan Szucs (husband Martin) of Wisconsin, sister Patricia Zammit (partner Gary Green) of Texas.also nieces Brandy, Star, Ashley, Miranda and nephew Eddie. Kendyl was Godmother to Beth Nelson's daughter, Katie. When confined at home, Wade provided the care, comfort and nourishment that Kendyl needed to retain her positive attitude. She enjoyed continued communications with her many co-workers and friends thru texting and Facebook. The family wishes to thank all the professionals and staff at both Stanford Hospital and Dominican Hospital, also Amy McMullen, MD for their exceptional care and dedication to ensure Kendyl's quality of life.
