Maxine Rutherford Montgomery

1933-2018

Maxine Rutherford Montgomery passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Los Gatos, California at the age of 84. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Montgomery, daughters Nana Montgomery-Bracht and Joy Montgomery Guerra and son Max Montgomery; grandchildren Wyatt John Guerra, Morgan Maria Guerra and Hayden Guerra; sons in –law Lance Kurt Bracht and Marco Guerra.

Maxine was born in New Jersey and spent most of her school yeas in Fresno California, graduating with a BS degree in Social Work from Fresno State. She went on to work at the Oakland Welfare Department where she met her husband of 59 years, John Montgomery. In 1974, she earned her Master degree in Social Work from San Jose State University while working in the field and eventually opening her private practice as a licensed clinical social worker. Maxine was passionate and tireless advocate for her clients and reluctantly retired in 2017 due to health issues.

Known for her impeccable style and taste, Maxine was also a quilt maker, gardener, cook, voracious reader, and avid traveler. Along with her husband, John, she traveled the world with a special love for the city of Paris which they visited yearly to celebrate their anniversary.

Maxine was a powerful force. She took a stand of for justice and fairness in all areas of life-making a strong impression and leaving a positive wake in her path. She is already greatly missed.
