Obituary of Nestor Guzman Vieyra

Nestor Guzman Vieyra February 20, 1943 - July 4, 2014 Resident of Santa Cruz A recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday and Friday for Nestor Guzman who passed away at his Santa Cruz home on July 4th, with his beloved family at his side. Born in El Cuervo, Michoacán, Mexico, he was 71 years old. Mr. Guzman Vieyra moved to the Santa Cruz area 45 years ago and began working with both Campbell's Soup Company in Pescadero, and then with Salz Tannery where his career in the leather industry spanned over 21 years. Following The Tannery, he worked with Lumbermen's in Felton, retiring in 2009, where he leaves many dear friends and co-workers whose friendships he cherished over the years. Mr. Guzman Vieyra will be forever remembered as a dedicated father and husband who constantly sought ways to improve his talents in the trades and to better the lives of his family. After completing trade school courses, he became an accomplished welder and fence builder. He also enjoyed working with leather goods, and created many beautiful gifts for his family and friends. He could always be counted on to help with construction projects for his friends and neighbors, no matter what the magnitude of the job was. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ignacia Guzman, his daughter, Claudia Guzman, and his son and daughter-in-law, Nestor and Marie Guzman and their son Donovan Guzman all of Santa Cruz. He was number 5 of 13 children, and is survived by nine siblings and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and his parents, Manuel and Ernestina Guzman. His wife and children will continue to hold dear, the many fond memories of family camping trips to Yosemite, Shasta, and Mexico. Friends and family will pay their respects on Thursday, July 10 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel form 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Star of the Sea (435 Frederick St.) beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery (2271 7th Ave.) Santa Cruz.
