Obituary of Joanne Volpe

Joanne Volpe passed away early Monday morning in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was 81. A California native, she attended Santa Cruz High School where she was a yell leader, member of the G.A.A., and representative to Girls State. After graduation, she entered San Jose State University. One of the highlights of her life was working at UCSC where she was greatly appreciated by both faculty and students. Joanne was known for her engaging sense of humor and openness to family and friends. She was an avid crossword solver as well as always being there to correct her children's grammar. Joanne is survived by her son Alan Keith of Scotts Valley, daughters Sue Muttersbach of Capitola and Lori Muttersbach of Fairfax, CA, granddaughter Lily Farmer, ex-husband Carl Peter Muttersbach of Santa Cruz, brother Donald Burkett of Rescue, CA, sisters-in-law Margaret Burkett of Sacramento and LaVerne Griffith of Capitola, 11 nieces and nephews, and loyal friend Jeff Easter of Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to the Santa Cruz SPCA (spcasc.org) or Hospice of Santa Cruz ( www.hospicesantacruz.org). A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
